HISTORYHistory is usually about dates and past events. Britzone Library@Senayan’s history, however, is much more, it cannot be separated from Studyzone Speaking Club (SSC). SSC was the original name, it can be tracked back into British Council Library at the year of 2003. Study Zone was British Council programme for English learning activities, not only a programme it also a privilege area for Gold Member holder of British Council Library. On the date of Study Zone opening, 6 September 2003, an idea arise to establish a conversation club. The idea was well-welcomed and granted by Mrs. Astuti, a care-taker of Study Zone. On Saturday, 20 September 2003 at 10 am, the first conversation class conducted. SSC ran through several leaderships, first was James Abu Bakar aka Achu who is worked hard to pioneering activities. Incidently in early 2004 Achu had to leave and the club leadership passed on to Maulidia or Lidia. On her leadership the take over occur. November 2004, British Council Library and all its collection was granted to DepDiknas (Departmen of National Education), implicate changes for the place and management. It was on Mrs. Astuti favour that SSC could continue its activities in the new place, Diknas Library or Library@Senayan. The new era starts, new president was elected, A.Louis Diaz Alffi was in charge for the year of 2005/2006. Under his leadership SSC change its name to Britzone Speaking Club under acknowledgement of British Council. All activity conducted under Britzone Speaking Club name all year around untill the next election come. Anon Bayu Aji was elected for 2006/2007 and under his leadership several breakthroughs were negotiated with Diknas Library. One of the result is the evolvements into its new name, Britzone Library@Senayan Speaking Club. in 2007/2008, Vemmy took charge of Britzone with her committee team, Britzone grew not like before, 20 person a session are considered few in her reign. After Vemmy, Mustakim Hatta receive the legacy for 2008/2009, in his era Britzone expand a new "serious class" conducted by mr. Arief on tuesday, where we really attend an english lesson class. Also from Mr. Arief (the senior) we are continue to improve week by week from his input for every saturday session he attends. Thank you to both mr. arief and mr. Arief (senior), and Kikim and his committee we grow more and more prestigious every time but still hold the free session spirit. Through changing of names, venues and leaderships, things that surely never change from this speaking club is the fun and friendly atmosphere created within. The atmosphere contribute a big deal towards enlightments ignite from shared ideas and experiences within members. |
